Poorva and Courtney recovered their scorched senses, as if in slow motion, while struggling to stand. We surrounded them like a protective tribe as they realized they were finally safe. Without question, they had accepted their fate within the inferno, left with no doubt they would perish in its finality, but now they processed the unlikely reality that they were still alive.

Courtney's shoulders slumped as her blackened hands sought balance on her trembling knees. She inhaled several times attempting to clear her scalded mind and body of the violent assault. Her weakened limbs shook as tears overwhelmed her.

But Poorva reacted differently.

More stoic.

Her eyes narrowed as she studied each of us with calculated suspicion. It was as if she believed she was still in danger. Like a trapped animal, she fired a steely gaze at our coven that caused me to reel back in defense. Her aggressive posture made it clear that she was planning to attack.

Then her twitching eyes darted to Mrs. Rosco and Laney.

Her muscles tensed and her heels pressed into the dirt, preparing to run.

"Ms. Kelly," I screamed. "Stop her! She's still Millicent!"

Poorva's warm eyes and easy smile were no where to be found. Her true essence had been suppressed to the point where I could hardly recognize her. There was no doubt in my mind that Millicent was still in charge.

And that was when it became clear to me.

Millicent had lured Courtney back into the burning building through Poorva's disguise. Her twisted thinking had forced a return to the excruciating burning that Courtney had endured for ages. Millicent must have believed they deserved it. Why else would she draw her sister back into such a fiery hell?

Millicent wanted to burn with the church.

To burn with everything that abused her.

Accused her.

And sentenced her to death.

Although it may not have made sense to her, the one thing she still ignored, was the fact that we were here to save her.

How could she still not know the nature of our mission?

It was her darkness blinding her.

It masked her ability to see anything beyond evil.

All she could see was her need for revenge.

As the words of warning left my lips, Ms. Kelly froze in stifled shock, unbelieving that Millicent still possessed Poorva. But, with no need for further explanation and without hesitation, Ms. Harrison flew into action.

She grabbed hold of Poorva, clamping her arms firmly around her. Poorva struggled with mighty kicks, but lacked the physical strength to fight her off.

Chanting steadily into her ear, Ms. Harrison used Poorva's weakened condition against her, while forcing her to hear the sorcerous words. Millicent struggled through Poorva's limp body, attempting desperately to get away from her age-old enemy. Screeching ear-piercing shrieks, she struggled to be released.

"Oath breaker! Deceiver!" Millicent blasted at Ms. Harrison, attempting to tear her down. "You betrayed me. But I won't allow your treachery to smother me again. I am high priestess now. You will bow to me."

She fought to break from Ms. Harrison's grip as we gaped at the magnitude of the power struggle.
